TOP FASHION HOUSES EMBRACING THE METAVERSE RUNWAY
With the stream of opportunities the metaverse has created for fashion houses it has become much easier to engage with the younger generation like the Gen Z. Communication has been a huge driving factor for them. A lot of fashion brands in collaboration with virtual gaming industries, aim to create digital boutiques for consumers. This is undoubtedly, a progressive marketplace of the future!
The business initiative for fashion brands is set to eliminate geographical hindrances. Offline goods are imitated and essentially made available to users anywhere in the world. This sales are made in two forms: functional items and diverse digital products. In this article, we’ll be exploring top fashion companies and designers that have leveraged their brands/products to this technology through the metaverse fashion shows:
THE MILAN FASHION WEEK SHOW
In February 2022, Dolce and Gabbana clothing brand in partnership with the Milan fashion week show set out to prove that the metaverse is “for a different generation type”. By hiring a Sicilian digital tailor, their avatar models were clothed in traditional tailoring designs. One creative idea that was featured on this runway is the presentation of the fake fur material that has been dumped for many years. They called it “Sheer tulle”. The dress came with a black lace suspender belt, wrapped in tissue, all in a bid to bring their creativity up to par and champion their Fashion NFTs.
Another of this proceeding is the Dolce and Gabbana “Gold glass dress NFTs”, constructed by UNXD, a virtual market place for luxury and culture.
The FABRICANT FASHION SHOW
In March 2022, The Fabricant fashion show was held courtesy of Decentraland marketplace. Some of the fashion items exhibited in the show are in form of animated images, videos and NFTs. Examples are:
“Baby Birkin” NFT. This is an exhibition inspired by Hermès translucent handbags with a growing fetus in the middle. And It is worth $47,000.
Frank Muller, a luxury Swiss watch maker, featuring their metaverse themed wristwatch. This item is considered the most functional bitcoin watch that allows consumers to check their bitcoin balance.
Nike, in partnership with Roblox ( a metaverse platform) created some virtual-sneakers outfit, with the aim of achieving an immersive Nike land.
THE SHANGHAI FASHION WEEK SHOW
In collaboration with Douyin, this fashion show was made digital in March 2021. It exposes the artistic fabric flows of some Chinese designers in full glory. The Chinese are another set of designers known for their outstanding creative ideas. This ideas are explored in the works of:
Ming Ma, who transformed jacquard upholstery from furniture store into clothing corsets.
Ting Gong, an embroidery artist that created an entire look from a hundred leather-scraps she has collected in the past.
ZI II Chien, a lifestyle designer that made a bold and bubbling ensemble of outdoorsy attires.
